I got a basic airbrush and hood (for Christmas), mostly to prime miniatures and apply base coat / under coat highlights and gradients. I had not bought paint or used it until recently.
My son's keytar came with two colored inserts and we decided to custom paint one of them for his recent set of shows (in this video, the keytar comes out at 6:00). The synth-wave type gradient and it came out pretty good, and adds some pop for the show.
The surface is really big for the little airbrush, but it was worth it and he is very happy.
